Ilmala Traction Station

The Ilmala Traction Station's architecture is designed to blend a piece of everyday infrastructure with the varied and dense urban fabric to enrich the environment.

The traction station is a single-storey, unmanned building. It fits into a narrow space between the adjacent quarried rocky hill and the street. Careful planning and excavation preserved the tall pine trees growing on the cliff. The green roof of the building continues the greenery of the cliff top, both visually and in terms of species selection, by planting a variety of species that grow naturally on the cliff. The roof of the power substation is the fifth facade, which can be viewed from above from the upper floors of the adjacent office buildings.

The building's facades are mainly matte black titanium zinc sheeting, with complementary structures of black metal sheeting and grating. The large folding door is in the same titanium zinc sheet as the associated façade. The titanium zinc plates are installed in a herringbone pattern.

The façade facing the street is enlivened by a series of small openings, behind which there is discreet façade lighting.
