Viikinmäki Electricity Substation

In the Viikinmäki substation project, an indoor gas-insulated switchgear replaced an old open switchyard. The award-winning substation is located prominently along the busy Hämeentie road, consisting of a yellow landscape portal and the substation building. The high-quality architecture and construction and the design of the transmission line structure take into account the visible building site and the surrounding landscape.

The building facades are made of two different-coloured titanium zinc sheets. The landscape portal consists of steel beams welded in a triangular cross-section. The unusual asymmetrical structure and minimalist finish of the colourful portal and the clean-cut monochromatic architecture of the substation building form a dynamic but coherent whole.
